Symposium - 2005 Climate Change

Darwin’s theories on the process of Evolution were based on observations of infinitesimally small changes in plants and animals occurring over billions of years.

With the 21st century still in its infancy, we must come to terms with the fact that the impact on the environment of human activity over the past 150 years represents an intervention in that process. In effect, the natural flow of the river of life is being diverted and we must adapt.

Darwin understood the process of adaptation and the mechanisms behind the complex web of life. His wider perspective offers us a vantagepoint from which we can plan our next move.

In July 2005 we came together in Darwin's town to explore ways of adapting to climate change.
