Michaela Crimmin

Head of Arts, RSA -
To commemorate its Bicentennial in 2004, the RSA had redefined its aims and objectives to recognise that climate change and poverty were two of the most important issues facing the planet and that it should focus its attention on addressing these issues. Michaela suggested that raising people’s awareness was the first step towards changing behaviour – if people know about these situations, they may do something about it. The RSA had, therefore, joined forces with the Arts Council, England (ACE) to initiate the ‘Art & Ecology’ programme. The recent launch was supported by Sir David King, the Government’s chief scientist and Sir Nicholas Serota, Director of the Tate Modern and an interdisciplinary programme of events were rolling out over the following two years. In the meantime, She had visited Ghana and would be visiting other poor nations to learn of their plight and how the arts might address some of their problems.
