Moving to a Low Carbon UK
The theme reducing carbon emissions continued from a scientific perspective with Sarah’s analysis and design of different scenarios. Energy generation and consumption were presented as linked issues and the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change was considering the mix of all resources, technologies and lifestyle options in their research. However, their studies revealed the way in which growth is embedded in the social norms of behaviour – ‘wants’ become ‘needs’ and this drives exponential ‘consumption intensity’. Sarah is, therefore, developing domestic tradable quotas and urban design adaptation to meet demand.
