Walk:1

Mardol
Standing with your back to the Darwin Gate, this is the view down the ancient street of Mardol. The road leads down to the River Severn and contains many buildings of antiquity. The name of the street means ‘Devil’s Boundary’ and possibly refers to the fact that it formed the edge of the ‘clean’ upper town where the Merchants lived and the wet, noxious area where the tanners worked around Barker Street.
