Towards 2009
'I was born a naturalist' Charles Darwin - 1838
2009 – The 200th anniversary of the birth of
Charles Darwin
2009 – The 150th anniversary of the
publication of 'On the Origin of The Species'
The vision for this series of celebratory events has been to honour
Darwin and his work and to firmly establish Shrewsbury, England on the
worldwide Darwin map.
The organisers have drawn together the arts and the sciences to create a
constantly evolving and wide ranging programme. Shrewsbury is a partner organisation in the Darwin200 group and over the next eighteen months will stage a programme of activities including lectures, theatre, visual arts and outdoor events that will form the epicentre of the global anniversary celebrations.
We are lucky enough to have the support of Randall Keynes a direct decendent of Charles Darwin and we have forged links with the founder of the Darwin Day group in the USA.
We welcome contact from other interested parties and educational institutions that may wish to contribute to the festival or simply learn more about Darwin. And we extend a warm welcome to you to visit us in the county of Shropshire.
